Salem football wears the crown of Conyers football. Bradley Moon helped prop it up on the Seminoles' head.

After some subtle success in Salem's season-openng, 21-3 win versus Heritage on Aug. 28, Moon was the main attraction last Friday night as his Seminoles downed Rockdale County 21-14. The win clinched the unnofficial "Conyers Cup" for Salem, the slogan dubbed for the area team who beats both of its in-town opponents in any given season.

Moon shone brightly in the win, gaining 130 yards and scoring a touchdown in the win. His contributions included a 75-yard touchdown run that broke the game open in the third quarter for Salem, who led by just one point and trailed in total yardage against Rockdale up to that point.

The big run came on an option play that started when Seminoles quarterback Jasijah Smith flipped a lofty pitch to him just before getting tackled -- it ended with Moon running 75 yards down the right sideline. It set up a first-and-goal that Moon punched in for a touchdown two plays later.

"JoJo (Smith) made the pitch, my line blocked and I ran as hard as I could," Moon said. "I just owe it all to those guys for making that play."

Coach Chad Estes had raved about Moon's ability during summer practice and the team's scrimmage game, and was not surprised to see Moon contribute in the Rockdale win.

"Bradley is an important part of making our backfield something special," Estes said.

So, congratulations to Bradley Moon - The Johnny's Pizza & Rockdale News Prep Athlete of the Week.
