Heritage’s Landy, Smith named coaches of the year

 Chuck Landy and Brian Smith, of Heritage, were named Region 8-AAAA tennis coaches of the year for boys and girls teams, respectively last week.
 Heritage was well represented in both the boys and girls All-region teams, voted on by coaches.
 Zachary Landy was named to the first team on the boys' singles side, and Alix Maloney and Taylor Maloney were put on the girls' first team singles.
 Frankie Merkel made the second team for the boys singles team, and KayLee Humphries was voted second team for the girls.
 In doubles, Erik Lauritsen/Trey Calinore were named to the first team, and Jordan and Jacob Worthington made honorable mention on the boys side.
 On the girls side, Callie Alford/Amanda Voyles were put on the second team and Brooke Craft/Ashley Merkel were voted honorable mention in doubles.
 Rockdale was also represented on the All-Region team, with Shoman Kasbekar earning honorable mention in boys singles.
 Ciarra Chesser and Amanda Mordt were named to the girls honorable mention singles teams, and Gabbie Burch/Zuri Eshun earned honorable mention girls doubles team honors from Rockdale.
 The Heritage girls and boys teams reached the elite eight of the state playoffs, falling to Starrs Mill and McIntosh, respectively.
 The rest of the All-Region teams were heavy on Madison County players, including six selections on the boys' side.
 On the boys first team singles were Josh Smith from Clarke Central and Eveguniea Vinogrodov of Loganville. Trey Morris of Madison County and Jarod Frost of Winder-Barrow were named to the second team, and Blaise Bolemon and Jeffrey Branson of Madison County, Max Brensen of Loganville, Regy Perlera of Cedar Shoals, Alex Soubannartyh of Apalachee and Kyle Hood of Monroe Area received honorable mention.
 Madison County's doubles team of Jake Scarborough/Chris Dove were named to the first team, and Connor Hancock/Josh Dooley of Madison County were selected on the second team along with MC Reed and Frankie Sisavath of Habersham Central.
 Loganville's Kenny Greaves/Drew Watson, Apalachee's Pheng Vue/Jamie Heglund and Winder-Barrow's Ernesto Thomas/Efa Osuegbu were all voted honorable mention in doubles.
 Jeannie Bowen of Madison County rounded out the first team singles on the girls' side, while Madison County's Sam LaZear and Kaie Hudgins were named to the second team.
 Winder Barrow had two girls voted to honorable mention selections as Anna Schmitz and Sunshyne Moua were voted by the coaches. Rounding out the singles honorable mention team was Heather Prosise of Loganville, Cailtin Clark of Cedar Shoals, Jasmin Atkinson of Monroe Area and Kayla Vickery of Apalachee.
 Kaitlyn Hale/Abby Morgan of Madison County was also named to first team doubles, and Habersham Central's Abby Brown/Claire Stovall was voted second team selections.
 On the honorable mention team were Jessie Speight/Quinn Edgar of Winder-Barrow, Alexia Supakorndej/KaLee Bates of Madison County and Samantha Greaves/Chelsea Boozer of Loganville.
