Heritage soccer working on field and off
April 9, 2010

Before their game against Salem, the Heritage boy's soccer team fought for a just cause and then battled it out for a 4-0 win on the pitch.
Heritage is in its second year of wearing and selling pink shirts and are in the middle of a campaign to raise funds to help fight cancer.
All of the proceeds from the Patriots' "kick cancer" T-shirts are going toward Heritage's relay for life team.
"We donate any kind of profits over to the relay for life team," Heritage coach Brandon Stewart said. "I want our boys to understand the bigger life issues as opposed to just soccer."
Stewart, whose wife's grandmother suffered from breast cancer, chose that particular cause a year ago after seeing the volleyball team do a similar fundraiser.
"My wife's grandmother was affected and I had a great aunt (with the disease)," Stewart said. "It's certainly been an aspect in both of our lives.
"Everyone knows someone with breast cancer."
The Patriots show their support for helping to eliminate the disease by wearing pink shirts on game days and for warm-ups.
After taking off the shirts before the matchup with rivals Salem on April 2, the match seemed to immediately go the Patriots way.
They scored their first two goals within the first five minutes and kept it up throughout the rest of the match.
"They were ready to go," Stewart said. "I think it showed on the field. It was the most complete game that we played."
Spencer Peterson, Toby Brotherton, Francisco Pimentel and Tyler Peoples scored a goal each for the Patriots.
